미디어미르앤 김은진 기자 | 여주세종문화관광재단은 오는 7일 세종국악당에서 뮤지컬 '난쟁이들'을 공연한다고 5일 밝혔다. 이 공연은 '예술경영지원센터의 공모사업인 '공연예술 지역 유통지원 사업'의 하나로 펼쳐진다.

이 작품은 여주세종문화관광재단이 지난 몇 년간 유치에 공들인 결과로 무대에 올리게 된 것으로 2015년에 초연됐다. 동화 속 인물들을 소재로 했으며, SNS 쇼츠와 릴스를 중심으로 영상 콘텐츠가 확산되며 관객층을 넓혀가고 있다. 지난해 11월부터 진행 중인 서울 공연은 전석 매진 사례를 이어가고 있으며, 여주 공연도한 티켓 오픈과 동시에 전석 매진을 기록했다.

뮤지컬 ‘난쟁이들’은 백설공주에 나오는 난쟁이들뿐만 아니라, 신데렐라, 인어공주 등 친숙한 동화 캐릭터를 유쾌하게 변주하며 관객들에게 날카로운 웃음과 공감을 선사하는 점이 작품의 특징이다.

이순열 여주세종문화관광재단 이사장은 “여주시민들에게 다채로운 예술의 즐거움을 드리기 위해 새로운 시도를 추진했다"며 "여주시민들의 문화욕구를 충족시킬 작품들이 앞으로 계속될 공연될 예정”이라고 말했다.

Yeoju Sejong Cultural & Tourism Foundation to Stage Musical “The Dwarfs”

Media Mir& Kim Eun-jin | The Yeoju Sejong Cultural & Tourism Foundation announced on the 5th that it will stage the musical “The Dwarfs” on the 7th at the Sejong Gugakdang. The performance is presented as part of the “Regional Distribution Support Project for Performing Arts,” a public contest program organized by the Arts Management Support Center.

The production comes to the Yeoju stage as a result of several years of effort by the foundation to bring the show to the city. Originally premiered in 2015, the musical draws on fairy tale characters and has been expanding its audience base as video content centered on SNS Shorts and Reels continues to spread online. The Seoul run, which has been ongoing since last November, has consistently sold out, and the Yeoju performance also recorded a complete sell-out immediately upon ticket release.

The musical “The Dwarfs” is distinctive in that it humorously reinterprets not only the dwarfs from Snow White but also familiar fairy tale characters such as Cinderella and The Little Mermaid, delivering sharp humor and relatable themes to audiences.

Lee Soon-yeol, Chairperson of the Yeoju Sejong Cultural & Tourism Foundation, said, “We have pursued new attempts to provide Yeoju citizens with diverse artistic experiences,” adding, “We will continue to present performances that satisfy the cultural aspirations of our community.”
